**Tulsa and the surrounding areas have a high incidence of Parvovirus. Even though puppies undergo three full rounds of vaccines on schedule, we cannot guarantee puppies will not get sick from Parvo. During the course of the vaccines, puppies are still extremely susceptible to Parvo. Due to this, we are not responsible for the cost of care/treatment with any Parvo positive puppies on this wellness program. This program is non-transferrable and non-refundable.**

Wellness Exams

Annual wellness examinations are an integral part of our preventative medicine program at Hecht Veterinary Hospital.  These wellness exams allow us to detect and prevent problems before they become a serious issue.  During these visits your veterinarian will perform an overall examination of your pet.  This specifically includes extermal checks of the following organs/organ systems:  eyes, ears, gingivae (gums), and teeth.  Your veterinarian will also palpate the lymph nodes and intra-abdominal organs, and auscult (listen) to the heart and lungs.  Finally, your veterinarian will assess your pet's overall skin condition, weight and body condition score.

Based off of your pet's examination findings, along with other factors such as your pets age, your veterinarian may also recommend further testings.  We encourage you to ask any questions you may have about your pet's health during these visits.  We want to partner with you to keep your four-legged family member to have a long and healthy life.

Vaccinations

Routine vaccinations are an important part of your pet's overall well-being. Vaccinations stimulate the immune system to produce antibodies to many common diseases. Receiving yearly vaccinations will help protect your four legged family member from many of these diseases. Our routine yearly vaccinations are listed below; however it is important to remember that each patient is different, and your veterinarian will work with you to select the best vaccination protocol for your pet.

Canine Adult Vaccinations

Distemper, Adenovirus, Parainfluenza, Parvovirus, and Lepto4 (four strains)

Feline Adult Vaccinations

Rhinotracheitis, Calici, Panleukopenia, Chlamydia Psittaci, and Leukemia

Microchipping

Microchipping is one of the best ways to reunite owners and pets in the unfortunate event that your pet gets lost. Microchips are the size of a grain of rice and are implanted right under the skin of a dog, cat, horse, parrot, or other animal. When scanned, the microchip emits a number which is then used to locate the phone number of the appropriate owner. It is important to remember that microchips are not a GPS device and can not be used to track a lost animal. They are only effective if the microchip is scanned by an appropriate device; however unlike collars or other accessories, microchips cannot be lost and are the most reliable form of identification on an animal. Most veterinary offices, shelters, and rescue organizations carry the microchip readers.
